Fitneff helps to combat sitting disease, according to CityLine Health Expert
Dr. Stacy Irvine, Chiropractor and Owner of Totum Life Science, appeared on CityLine—a popular daily Canadian Home and Lifestyle show—Wednesday, February 1, to provide advice on how to combat sitting disease.
The term, “Sitting Disease” has been coined by the scientific community and commonly refers to the ill effects of an overly sedentary lifestyle. Recent research has shown that many health problems can arise from sitting for too long everyday. This is an issue that is relevant to adults and children alike.
In the segment, Dr. Irvine highlighted a number of products, all available in Canada on Fitneff.ca. Fitneff is a Canadian company dedicated to creating active solutions for productive lives, making it easier to add daily activity into your busy schedule and combatting sitting disease, one desk at a time.
For the office:
CoreChair combines the freedom of movement with postural support, allowing mobility and movement in all directions to 14 degrees, stimulating metabolism and circulation, and strengthening core stabilizing muscles
Sit-Stand Desk allows you to move between sitting and standing without interrupting your workflow. The work surface can be elevated using simple releases on either side of the desk.
Garmin Activity Trackers encourage movement and goal setting by tracking your activity and sleep and reminding you when it is time to move. Activity trackers are available for both adults and children, and parents can program goals and other tasks for their kids, and hand out virtual rewards.
Integrate Desk Pedals is a portable elliptical and stepper that keeps legs engaged while sitting or standing. It can be kept under a desk to allow pedalling while you work.
For schools or in a homework zone at home:
Stand2Learn Standing Desks for the Classroom allow children to move between sitting and standing during the day at school. Breaking up long periods of sitting throughout the school day has been shown to improve focus, engagement and even mental health in the classroom.
In the segment, Dr. Irvine also offered great advice on how to sit at a desk in order to maintain a proper posture and ensure ergonomic alignment:
Keep your monitor at eye level, and as far away from you as possible
Keep arms at a 90 degree angle, with the wrists joints flat while typing
Keep feet flat on the floor
Keep the lower back supported
Get up from your chair to move every 20 minutes
Take a stand against sitting disease today with these simple suggestions and products.
