We all know what it’s like to be stuck in an office space all day at work. You sit for long hours of the day basically glued to your computer screen, desperately trying to get work done while your body feels slow and sluggish from the lack of movement. Let’s be honest, it can be quite draining.
But what would it be like to work in an office that integrates more movement into your work flow throughout the day? As Fitneff’s Marketing Coordinator intern for the summer, I’m here to tell you just that! Having never had a traditional office job prior to this position, I can truly say that working in an office that puts movement first has been a complete delight. Check out some of the many reasons why working in a moving office is so great.
Standing desks are a huge trend that has caught fire in the business and wellness community as of late because they really make a big difference when it comes to comfort and productivity. At the Fitneff office, we have two standing desks incorporated into our workflow as well as a few others placed in the common area of our co-working space. One of such units is the Ergotron Workfit TL sit-stand desk, which works perfectly with our layout because it only moves straight up and down, not taking up any extra space outside of its footprint. And of course we have a couple of accompanying anti-fatigue mats to make sure our feet are as comfy as can be.
Whenever I’m feeling restless or sluggish, it makes all the difference for me to take a turn at a standing desk. Not only does it aid in ergonomic positioning for my spine and neck, but also gives me a renewed sense of energy so that I can continue with my work without feeling so lazy.
The Fitneff office is also decked out with two treadmill desks to work from. The WalkTop Treadmill Desk is again placed in the common area of our co-working space, making it the perfect station for collaboration. Its expansive desktop allows us to set up however we want and need so that we can hunker down and get solid work done.
We also have a SpaceWalker Treadmill Desk, which is a wonderful space-saver that stills gets you walking. Anytime I’m looking for a quick break from the desk, it’s easy to hop on the SpaceWalker in a heartbeat and get some steps in.
I love having access to treadmill desks in the office setting. I can’t tell you how many times my body has felt like it needs a walk but I have too much work to do to feel like I can step away for a bit. Now I can easily do both!
As much as we love to get up and get moving as often as possible, the reality of office work is that sometimes you just need to sit down and get things done. But that doesn’t mean your chair can’t help your body too! The Fitneff office houses a variety of active seating solutions, including the Twixt Active Stool and the CoreChair.
I personally cannot praise the CoreChair enough. Being quite tall, I often have back pain and trouble with proper posture, which is definitely not aided by traditional office chairs. With the CoreChair, my back receives the support that it needs and my core is actively engaged throughout the day so that I don’t feel so stiff and sore at the end of my shift. In other words, the CoreChair is an office life saver!
Last but not least, we have fidgets. If there’s ever a time when the standing desk and treadmill desk stations are all fully occupied, the Portable FootFidget is there to provide relief for restless legs. You can use it even while you’re sitting to help increase blood flow and cardiovascular health, which is much better than simply sitting in a stationary position. It can also easily tuck away under the desk when not in use. I love working in an office that has this type of smaller option so that even when I feel like sitting, I can still integrate movement in a positive, healthy way.
Overall, working in a space that offers such a wide variety of options for workstations is amazing. Being able to integrate more movement into my days and avoid the risks that are often associated with sedentary behaviours really means a lot to my overall health. So now that you have the inside scoop on what it’s like to work in an office that puts wellness first, why not make your office a moving office too! Try incorporating some of the above items to make a change in your workspace today.
