Remembering Fitneff Co-Founder - Devon Bolton

Remembering Fitneff Co-Founder - Devon Bolton

The Fitneff story began when Devon Bolton, Laurel Walzak, and Ron Bettin met during Queen’s University Executive MBA Program.  On this intense educational experience, we had a chance to meet some exceptional people, and Devon stood out with his passion and intensity. One evening over beers, the idea of designing a treadmill desk came to fruition, and the WalkTop was born; before we even graduated, Fitneff was formed.

Integrating Movement on World Diabetes Day

Integrating Movement on World Diabetes Day

November 14th is World Diabetes Day. This year marks the 10th year I’ve been living with this disease – I think it is more important than ever to discuss the impacts of diabetes in the classroom and the office. Diabetes treatment can involve medications (pills, insulin) and/or increasing exercise and movement. Those with Type 1 Diabetes, movement is a crucial part of treatment. With two-thirds of Canadians suffering with either diabetes or is pre-diabetic, movement should be an important part of all our lives.

Teambuilding in a Co-working Space | Interview with ReSourceYYC

Teambuilding in a Co-working Space | Interview with ReSourceYYC

Fitneff headquarters at ReSourceYYC, which is a coworking space for a wide gamut of entrepreneurial businesses. We all have access to events, workshops, and communal spaces, like meeting rooms, printers, front desk, and of course, the kitchen; so, we naturally interact as a group. To bring people together beyond their desks, their offices, their companies, is no easy feat - but that is something that ReSourceYYC does on a regular basis. We probe Marlene and Shanel of ReSourceYYC for their teambuilding strategies and tactics.

Elbow to Elbow: Standing Desks for Shared Workspaces

Elbow to Elbow: Standing Desks for Shared Workspaces

As the workplace is encouraging more collaborations and teamwork, often our physical workspace starts to meld together. Wonderful for uninterrupted workflow however, what if you want to try a standing desk configuration and there is a great height difference between you and your desk mates? We recognize the modern office isn’t as segmented as it once was and the trend is leaning towards an open concept office, so we present solutions when you and your colleagues are faced with a sharing standing desk conundrum.

5 Health and Wellness Influencers To Follow This Fall

5 Health and Wellness Influencers To Follow This Fall

Earlier this year, we did a post on wellness influencers who inspired and motivated us to create and commit to our new year health resolutions; we found that it reminded us of our own personal goals during our routine IG feed scroll. Whether it was to reduce meat consumption or to try to incorporate more physical activity, these influencers lead by example and gave us a plethora of fresh ideas to incorporate or change up our routines.  As the holiday seasons approach us, our general wellness can become secondary; thus, we rounded up another 5 health and wellness influencers to follow as we go into the chillier months.

Guest Post: Being Grateful and Finding Happiness While Walking The Camino

Guest Post: Being Grateful and Finding Happiness While Walking The Camino

We are a mother-daughter team on a 500 mile walking quest to learn more about ourselves and others through gratefulness. This past summer, we headed to Spain to walk the El Camino de Santiago pilgrimage with a plan to interview someone each day to find out what they were grateful for and to practice daily gratitude ourselves. The El Camino pilgrimage is traditionally a religious pilgrimage with pilgrims walking from all across Europe to visit the sacred burial site of St. James.
